LIGHT SOULS
Four bodies, infinite realities

From Ukraine the show that rewrote the canons of mime
The adventure of life between poetry and comedy

Light Souls is a unique show of its kind: a physical theatre performance that tells the present that surrounds us in an acute and amusing way, looking for the immutable silence of the human condition under the noise of modernity, described with delicacy and irony.

Written and directed by director
Liubov Cherepakhina, a teacher at the renowned Academy of Variety and Circus Arts in Kiev, Light souls is performed by award-winning Ukranian quartet Dekru (winners at the Odessa Clown and Mime Festival), who are considered the spiritual heirs of the Master Marcel Marceau. They accompany spectators on a journey full of laughter into the comedy of life, between poetry and social satire.

Four figures dressed in black and made up in white enter in an empty scene. They fill it with the sole use of the body, creating characters and situations, from the most imaginative to the most ordinary. A succession of short acts composing the portrait of contemporary man: tics, escapes in the imagination, courage, feelings, aspirations.
Seamlessly, here appear in front of the eyes of the public a merry circus, a quiet working day disrupted by the blockage of an elevator, an Olympic competition, a series of sketches on daily unexpected events in which everyone can recognize each other, a mysterious underwater world, a dreamlike love story between living statues and much more.

With its
universal language this show has entertained and moved hundreds of cities in countries all over the world, including France, Germany, Spain, Polynesia, New Caledonia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, Hungary, Romania and Switzerland, as well as Ukraine and Italy.
The group’s ability to handle big topics in a light-hearted manner and with irresistible empathy has allowed
Dekru to conquer even the vast audiences of TV programmes such as Ukraine’s got talent and Tu sí que vales Italia. The quartet was chosen to perform during Pope Francis’ Audience for the Jubilee of Travelling Show People and as the star of the Gran Gala du Cirque, a show that brings together the best international circus performers in one great event.
